Valued in your community
At Brooks Mead, we place people’s personal interests, needs and aspirations at the heart of absolutely everything we do. When the weather’s good, people spend time in the garden. We take regular trips to the Unicorn Centre – a local specialist service for disabled adults, involving crafts, art, music and drama – as well as canal barge trips and cinema outings. Stourbridge is our closest big town and we often eat out there. People go swimming at Crystal Leisure Centre, visit local libraries and the Merry Hill Shopping Centre. People enjoy regular visits to the seaside, local tourist attractions and railway museums. Brooks Mead receives home visits from a GP, optician, dentist and chiropodist. The nearby Ridge Hill Centre provides access to a psychiatrist, physiotherapist, epilepsy nurse, behaviour nurse, speech and language therapist, weight clinic and many more services.
Living at this service
Brooks Mead is ideal for a man, aged 20 or over. The three men who live in the bungalow are non-verbal. The people we support here enjoy a quiet lifestyle and will welcome an individual with a similar outlook. We can accommodate both PEG and normal diets. All of the people we care for at Brooks Mead need help to support themselves, using specially designed day chairs and wheelchairs. They are all men aged between 33 and 55, with diagnoses including epilepsy and profound learning disabilities. People enjoy days out, listening to live music, watching television, gardening, bingo, sensory activities, family visits and going to the pub.
“At Brooks Mead, we are here first and foremost to benefit people in all areas of their lives. We work hard to promote independence and we want individuals to feel content, happy, safe and secure. We work with people to find out what they enjoy so we can help them to experience new things – even individuals who are in their shell when they first arrive.” Manager, Brooks Mead
