Broadlea
Life-changing support for adults with learning disabilities and physical disabilities.
Type of property
At Broadlea, people feel welcome and are supported to live independently. Broadlea is made up of two terraced houses next door to each other. Each property has three bedrooms, one with a lift for access to the upper floor. There is a kitchen, a dining room, a living room, and two wet room-style bathrooms. The other property has an open-plan kitchen and dining room, a living room, and a laundry room. There are two wet room-style bathrooms and in the upstairs bathroom, there is an accessible bath with side access and hoists. There is an accessible garden with a patio for people to use when the weather is nice. People from both properties enjoy socialising in this shared space. We also welcome pets - Broadlea currently has a rabbit and a goldfish.
Valued in your community
Broadlea is in the village of Elland, which has shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants, a post office, a library, and a Rex Cinema. We also have easy access to surrounding villages for larger amenities. For people who like to stay active, Halifax and Huddersfield have a range of leisure facilities for exercise classes, sports courts, gyms and swimming pools. Halifax is the nearest town and offers a Vue Cinema, Halifax Playhouse and Victoria Theatre, The Eureka! Science Museum, Calderdale Industrial Museum, Woolshops Shopping Centre, and Electric Bowl for bowling. People also like to visit Huddersfield for attractions including Kingsgate and Packhorse Shopping Centres, Lawrence Batley Theatre, high-street banks and an Odeon Cinema.
Living at this service
Broadlea is ready to welcome a man or a woman aged between 25 and 40. People here live with various complex needs including cerebral ocular muscular dystrophy, Down’s syndrome, Rett syndrome, and cerebral palsy. One of the men here enjoys watching politics, going to the day centre, driving, and sticking to his routine. Another man likes sensory things such as water, calming music and swimming. One of the women likes colourful and sparkly things. She often potters around the house and likes shopping and relaxing in her room. The other woman loves singing and dancing, watching musicals, baking, crafts, and food. The youngest resident at Broadlea is a man who enjoys rock music, playing his guitar, and gaming. Similarly to other people here, he appreciates a routine and knowing what he will be doing each day.
“The staff enjoy working at Broadlea because of the people we support - everyone is enjoyable to be around. The atmosphere is very busy and happy. The two houses are very different so they can cater for varying needs. They are new build properties that are very well maintained, within a safe and quiet cul-de-sac.” Manager, Broadlea
