Avonridge
Life-changing support for adults with learning difficulties, autism, physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries and mental health conditions.
Type of property
At Avonridge, people are welcomed and supported to live independent lives. This detached, four-bedroom bungalow has a kitchen, a dining room, a living room, and a laundry room. The communal bathroom is a partial wet room, and also has a shower over the bath. There is a separate room with a toilet and sink too. There is level access into the property, which has a large garden with a patio for people to use when the weather is nice. Assistive technology can be tailored to suit the needs of each person.
Valued in your community
Avonridge is in the village of Bedlington, which has cafes, pubs, restaurants, shops, high-street banks, a library and a post office. For people who like to stay active, Blythe or Concordia Leisure Centres offer gyms, exercise classes, swimming pools, and a Clip ‘n’ Climb wall. We are also close to the coast which has picturesque walks. Tynemouth and South Shields are nearby and offer tourist attractions including Tynemouth Aquarium, Tynemouth Priory and Castle, Gutterball Alley for bowling, the Life Brigade Museum, South Shields Roman Fort, and the Ocean Beach Pleasure Park. Newcastle-upon-Tyne provides access to larger shops and amenities. People like to visit the Life Science Centre, Victoria Tunnel Tours, the Discovery Museum, Great North Museum, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, a number of theatres and cinemas, Eldon Square shopping centre, and Newcastle Castle.
Living at this service
Avonridge is ready to welcome a man to join the service. The men we support here are aged between 34 and 63 years old, and live with learning difficulties, autism, heart problems, bipolar disorder, epilepsy, an eating disorder, and challenging behaviour. One man here likes to watch television in his room, and appreciates the peace and quiet. Another man enjoys going to the day centre four days a week, and spends a lot of time in the community, as well as in church on a Sunday. People have varied interests including walking, gaming, listening to music, gardening, shopping, cooking, watching television, volunteering, socialising and being in the community. At Avonridge, people choose how they spend their time. Trips to the local towns, castles, museums and shows are favourites.
“Avonridge is a true home and all of the people we support enjoy living here. When you walk into the property you feel you are in a homely environment, not a residential care setting. One resident has been here for twenty-three years! It is a very friendly place, with a settled staff team, in a lovely area.” Manager, Avonridge
