social care future

Lifeways has joined the Social Care Future movement, an initiative that aims to bring about positive change in social care.

Social Care Future brings together a wide range of people and organisations, with people who draw on social care at its heart, families, professionals, managers, user-led organisations, and community groups alongside national and local organisations playing a range of roles, including providers like Lifeways.

Movement members come together to drive change towards a co-produced vision:

“We all want to live in the place we call home, with the people and things that we love, in communities where we look out for one another, doing things that matter to us”

Social Care Future began in 2018. Building from the vision, a group of 12 diverse members with lived experience themselves led an inquiry with more than 500 contributors. The Whose Social Care is it Anyway? Inquiry explored people’s experiences and what would be needed to achieve the vision From Permanent Lockdown to an Equal Life - Social Care Future

The inquiry report proposed five key areas for change to achieve:

1.    Communities where everyone belongs

2.    Living in the place we call home

3.    Leading the lives we want to live

4.    More resources, better used

5.    Sharing power as equals

Since its founding, Social Care Future has held numerous in-person ‘Big Connect’ member gatherings, alongside multiple online sessions. Discussions focus on topics such as assessments and care planning, commissioning and procurement, and regulation.

As part of its broader strategy (A Movement for Gloriously Ordinary Lives - Social Care Future) Social Care Future is now bringing together provider members who will agree to make changes or influence the key issues and work to agree short, medium and long-term actions to help remove barriers to positive change.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be part of Social Care Future,” said Jodie Allen-Cawley, Lifeways’ Head of Quality and Health & Safety.

“As we start our first full year as members of this movement, we want to help create a future where social care works better for everyone.”

Jodie added: “As the UK’s largest supported living provider, we believe that our teams at Lifeways have lots to share: our skills, experience, knowledge, and passion. Here’s to driving up quality across our sector!”
